Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Drayage Terminal Manager to establish and grow our Baltimore terminal from the ground up. Starting with a single truck, you will be responsible for building, scaling, and managing all aspects of terminal operations, including driver recruitment, customer service, and ensuring operational efficiency. This is a full start-up mode opportunity, ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about building teams and processes from scratch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Terminal Operations:
- Launch and manage day-to-day terminal operations, starting with one truck and scaling quickly.
- Develop and implement operational processes to ensure efficiency, compliance, and safety.
- Oversee scheduling, dispatching, and coordination of drayage operations to meet customer needs.
- Driver Recruitment and Retention:
- Actively recruit, onboard, and retain owner-operators and company drivers to grow the terminal.
- Foster a positive culture and build strong relationships with drivers.
- Customer Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers in the Baltimore region, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.
- Address and resolve customer inquiries and operational issues promptly.
- Team Building:
- Hire, train, and manage terminal staff as the operation grows.
- Promote a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Financial and Operational Metrics:
- Manage terminal budgets and P&L, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time performance, driver utilization, and safety metrics.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including FMCSA and DOT requirements.
- Maintain a strong focus on driver and terminal safety through regular audits, training, and adherence to best practices.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in drayage, intermodal trucking, or terminal management, preferably in a start-up or high-growth environment.
- Strong knowledge of the Baltimore drayage market, including ports, regulations, and customer base.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and manage drivers and build a team.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and operational metrics.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and related software is a plus.

The expected salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
